100G Idle Mapping Procedure Core

General Description

The Xelic Idle Mapping Procedure Core (XC4IMP) supports mapper and demapper rate adaptation through the removal and insertion of PCS Idles, Error Blocks, Local Faults, or Remote Faults. This core can be integrated into a subsystem configuration with other functions to provide rate adapted 100G ethernet mapping into OTN FLEX frames for multiplexing or beyond 100G Transport Applications.

The XC4IMP Mapper interprets incoming client 100G PCS data streams and indicates any detected alignment errors. The mapper performs rate adaptation through the removal of PCS idles, PCS errors, PCS local faults, and PCS remote faults to achieve the desired data rate indicated by line side read enable signaling. The mapper also provides a PAUSE frame enable output (used to enable PAUSE frame insertion by an externally connected Ethernet Demapper block) that is asserted when the internal FIFO read and write pointer delta is greater than the value provided by PAUSE FIFO threshold inputs. In addition, an output is also provided to indicate the detection of an internal FIFO error indicating that the requested line reduced data rate has led to an error because there were not enough idles available for removal to achieve the desired rate. A minimum inter-packet gap input is provided to ensure a minimum number of idles are maintained between packets when removing idles.

The XC4IMP Demapper interprets incoming client 100G PCS data streams and indicates any detected alignment errors. The demapper performs rate adaptation through the insertion of PCS idles, PCS errors, PCS local faults, and PCS remote faults to achieve the desired data rate indicated by client side read enable signaling. In addition, an output is provided to indicate the detection of an internal FIFO error indicating that the requested increased client data rate has led to an error because there was not an opportunity to add PCS idles to achieve the desired rate. The demapper also has the ability to insert management frames provided by an external source
